One of these factors that damage the hair fibers the most, and also the one that pays less attention, is the sun. Just as our skin needs protection so that it is not damaged by the UVA rays that this element gives off, hair can also be damaged by the daily overexposure of solar rays to which we subject it.
To protect your hair from the sun you have two main options: either go to a beauty shop and buy a sunscreen for this, or there is also the possibility that you make this product yourself at home using more natural and economical ingredients. We recommend the second option and, therefore, we explain how to make a sunscreen for homemade hair. Keep reading!

Although in any beauty shop we can find products that protect hair from the sun. Most of these types of cosmetics tend to have an excessive chemical composition so we can end up with a hair that is very damaged in other ways. Therefore, it is more advisable to make your own sunscreen for homemade hair, as we can choose natural ingredients that, in addition to protecting the hair fibers of the sun, will also provide other benefits due to the richness of healthy nutrients that have these.
Before beginning this step by step, it is important that you know some of the benefits that will bring to your hair the ingredients that we will use for the home remedy:
Mint: it is a medicinal herb with a high content of B and C vitamins, healthy acids, minerals such as calcium, iron and phosphorus, flavonoids and beta-carotene. All this gives the mint excellent antioxidant properties that protect hair from cellular oxidation caused by free radicals.
Apple cider vinegar: this liquid with a characteristic acid taste is ideal for this remedy since it has cleansing and antiseptic properties that help balance the pH of hair and scalp, as well as preventing some hair conditions caused by the sun like dryness, curling and split ends.
Lemon: It is a fruit that has nutrients such as vitamin C and B, minerals and flavonoids. All this provides strengthening and antioxidant properties that help protect the hair from its fall as well as from aggressive agents such as the sun. In addition, it also has exfoliating properties that will eliminate dead cells accumulated in your hair leaving it soft and shiny.
Now that you know the benefits of sunscreen for home hair thanks to the richness of healthy nutrients from its natural ingredients, here we will explain how to make it with a simple step by step.
The first step in making this home remedy is to add 1 cup of water to a saucepan and put it on the fire until it starts to boil. When the water reaches the boiling point, add 4 mint leaves to the saucepan and let it boil for 3 minutes.
Once the time indicated has elapsed, turn off the heat, cover the saucepan and let the mint leaves rest in the water for 10 minutes to finish infusing. Finally, strain the drink into a bowl or container and let it cool.
The next step will be to cut 1 lemon in two and squeeze one of its halves in a container, taking care that no pulp or nuggets fall inside it. In that case, you can strain the juice until it is completely clean of the leftover lemon.
When you have obtained the lemon juice, add it in the same bowl where the mint infusion is together with the glass of apple cider vinegar.
When you have added all the ingredients, stir everything with the help of a spoon until you get a homogeneous mixture. Next, add this mixture to a bottle or a bottle that has a spray, spray or diffuser to facilitate the application of the hair. You will have ready your sunscreen for homemade hair.
To use it correctly on your hair, you will have to apply the sunscreen to the hair before sun exposure for all the dry hair evenly. So that the results are better and that the protector penetrates better in the hair fibers, massage your hair for a couple of minutes making soft circular movements with your fingers. Then let the mixture sit on your mane for 20 minutes before exposing yourself to the sun. Another option if you prefer to remove it is that, once the waiting time has elapsed, rinse with plenty of warm water.
Keep in mind that the lemon when contacting with the sun's rays lightens the hair. Therefore, if you do not want your hair to clear, simply remove the lemon from the recipe and use only the mint and apple cider vinegar. Or, you can remove it well from the hair before exposing yourself to the sun, as we have said before.
